Your personality is what makes you awesome. I know it, your readers know it, but is it reflected in the way you write?
Sadly we all judge books by their covers (even though we know we shouldn’t) and it’s no different for your online home. If a reader doesn’t like what they read, if they can’t connect on a personal level, it’s bye-bye, see you later – they move on to the next one.
And that’s the key to crafting quality content that keeps people coming back for more. You need that connection, to be on your reader’s level, to inspire them to take action and to understand where you’re coming from. Without that, what’s the point?
If content is King, community is Queen…
Most people these days write for search engines. They want to rank well and beat their competition, they want their content in front of as many people as possible. While you shouldn’t rule out SEO, the way in which we consume content is moving past that. Gone are the days of keyword stuffing. Sure you might get clicks from Google, but then what?
If your content doesn’t enrich that visitor’s life in some way, if it doesn’t educate, or inspire, encourage or connect, you’ve failed.
Building your online community has its foundations in quality, meaningful content that’s functional, easy to read and appealing to your visitors. This is how you’ll command the respect and loyalty of your readers, by respecting them first.
Thankfully I do things differently. You could say I’m unconventional but is that really such a bad thing? Did you ever see an artist who wasn’t a bit quirky, who broke the mold and went against the grain?
As a creative person I’ll get to know you, I’ll talk to you about your loves, what goes on in your head, what makes you tick. I’ll translate that into content that’s you in all the right places. Something that connects, that’s human, that’s worth reading.
